About J-Skin
Why J-Skin exists
J-Skin is a project that helps you observe your moles calmly and regularly. It grew out of a simple idea: skin changes are easiest to spot when you have something to compare them with. That is why J-Skin lets you document each mole over time — take photos in repeatable conditions, align them with earlier shots, measure diameter and area, and compare successive photos side by side.
Everything is built around the ABCDE rule (asymmetry, border, colour, diameter, evolution), which gives structure to your self-observation. When you visit a dermatologist, you can generate a clear PDF report with your photo and measurement history — better documentation means a better conversation with your doctor. J-Skin is an independent project, created by the J-Skin team.
What J-Skin is not
J-Skin is not a medical device. The app does not diagnose anything, does not assess disease risk and does not replace a visit to a dermatologist. The ABCDE rule in the app is purely educational and is meant to organise your observations, not to make a diagnosis. Any suspicious or changing mole should be seen by a doctor — if something worries you, do not delay a consultation.
Privacy first
Your data belongs to you. Photos and notes stay on your device — by default you create no account and nothing is uploaded to the cloud. Your data is encrypted, and access to the app is protected by a PIN or biometrics (fingerprint or face). If you want to be safe when changing phones, you can enable an optional, encrypted backup to your own Google Drive. The choice is yours.
How we prepare our content
The articles on our site are written by the J-Skin team based on publicly available, reputable sources — including the American Academy of Dermatology, the WHO, the NHS and national cancer organisations. We review the content for accuracy against these sources. It is educational in nature and does not constitute medical advice.
